ANGLICAN & CATHOLIC BISHOPS WHO ARE MEETING THIS WEEK IN ROME AND CANTERBURY: TO DISCUSS HOW THEY CAN GROW TOGETHER IN JOINT MISSION AND CHURCH UNITY

Today, with Pope Francis, I prayed these words for Anglican and Catholic bishops who are meeting this week in Rome and Canterbury to discuss how they can grow together in joint mission and church unity. We prayed this on the site that the apostle Paul was buried.  

 

“God reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. As we send you forth from the tomb of the Apostle to the Nations, we call on you to make this ministry your special care.

“As you preach and celebrate the sacraments with God’s holy people, bear witness to the one hope of your calling. May your ministry alongside one another as Catholics and Anglicans be for the world a foretaste of the reconciling of all Christians in the unity of the one and only Church of Christ for which we pray this day.”

Hoy, con el Papa Francisco, recé estas palabras por los obispos anglicanos y católicos que se reunirán ésta semana en Roma y Canterbury para discutir cómo pueden crecer juntos en la misión conjunta y la unidad de la iglesia. Oramos ésto en el lugar donde fue enterrado el apóstol Pablo.
 
“Dios nos reconcilió consigo mismo por medio de Cristo y nos ha dado el ministerio de la reconciliación. Mientras os enviamos desde la tumba del Apóstol a las Naciones, os instamos a que cuidéis especialmente éste ministerio.

“Al predicar y celebrar los sacramentos con el pueblo santo de Dios, sed testigos de la única esperanza de vuestro llamamiento. Que vuestro ministerio mutuo como católicos y anglicanos sea para el mundo un anticipo de la reconciliación de todos los cristianos en la unidad de la única Iglesia de Cristo por la que oramos éste día”.
